Children's Books with LGBTQ+ Themes

As part of Pride month we are sharing some great children's books that explore themes of identity, gender, sexuality and diverse families.

Reading to children is one of the simplest and most effective ways to normalise and celebrate diversity. It can help us adults to simplify what may otherwise feel like a complex subject and help us to communicate in an age appropriate way.

Books help provide children (and adults!) with the language necessary to ask questions and start important conversations, and gives them permission to do so.

Experiencing a diversity of characters through reading can validate and affirm their own experiences or sense of identity, or encourage empathy for others.
