Frequently Asked Questions

Does therapy take place online or in person? We understand that you need to see a therapist at a time and place that is convenient, and what is right for one person might not be right for another. We offer in person therapy from our offices in Sheffield, South Yorkshire and we have team members around the country, so the locations we cover are changing regularly. We also have online sessions available.

How much does therapy cost? We have a range of therapists with different rates according to experience, specialisms and training. Therapy sessions range between £90 - £180 per therapy session, and we will be able to advise of the exact cost following an initial consultation. The initial consultation is free and there is no obligation to go ahead.

Is therapy just for those diagnosed with mental illness? No. Our purpose is to help people to live better, and we help a range of individuals through different challenges. Problems may include relationship difficulties, unhealthy behaviour patterns, problems with eating, low confidence, anxiety or difficulty sleeping. We help people to break out of unhealthy cycles, by gaining insight into where these difficulties have come from and providing evidence-based solutions to move forward and live in a way that you want.

Will my therapy notes go on my GP records? Your therapy notes will not go on your GP records or medical notes, without your permission.

How do I enquire? You can enquire by calling 01143035053 or by emailing info@mdownsandassociates.co.uk. We will then schedule a consultation with a Clinical Psychologist who will discuss some of your current difficulties to enable them to match you to the most suitable therapist or therapy type for you.

Do you provide therapy for children? We have therapists and psychologists who specialise in working with children and families, in a way that is appropriate for the individual and delivered in a way that is appropriate to their age and level of understanding. For more information, select our Therapy for Children in the menu.

When does therapy take place? In order to make therapy accessible and to reduce the impact on other commitments and schedules, we offer therapy sessions during the week and also weekends . We also have evening slots available.

How do I know what type of therapy is right for me? Our therapists draw upon a range of therapeutic models, to provide an integrative approach that is tailored to you and your difficulties. To find out more about you and what therapeutic input may best suit your needs, we offer a consultation with a Clinical Psychologist. This is free, confidential and will help us to recommend the best therapist and approach for you.

How do I pay for my therapy? Therapy sessions are to be paid monthly, in arrears. You will receive an invoice each calendar month. This can be paid by bank transfer or in person by card payment. Receipts can be provided on request.

Can you accept private health care insurance? We accept private health care referrals from AXA for therapy with Dr Maria Downs. Please contact AXA directly for a referral.
