June is Pride month and this weeks spotlight looks at Mental Health and the LGBTQ+ community š³ļøāš š³ļøāā§ļøĀ
Being LGBTQIA+ does not mean a person will have mental health problems, however experiences of discrimination, social disadvantage and social exclusion increase the risk to a person's mental health.

Over half of LGBTQIA+ people have experienced depression
Three in five have experienced anxiety
One in eight aged 18-24 had attempted to end their life
Stressors include:
Homophobia and transphobia
Stigma
Rejection
Hate crimes and bullying
Social isolation
Support and resources are available, through:Ā
1/ Switchboard - The national LGBTQIA+ support line 0800 0118 100 (Open daily 10-22:00) or email them atĀ hello@switchboard.lgbtĀ and they will typically respond within 5 daysĀ
2/Ā aktĀ A charity helping LGBTQIA + who are young (age 16-25) and find themselves homelessĀ
3/ Imaan - The UKās leading LGBTq Muslim charityĀ
4/ The NHS - Treatment, support and signposting can be sought by contacting your GP.Ā
5/Ā Gendered IntelligenceĀ - Support for trans, non binary or gender questioning people.
6/Ā MindĀ - Charity proving support for mental health difficulties and campaigning for better mental health servicesĀ
